Job Shop Advisor

I spent time volunteering in the careers department of the university. Undergraduates and post graduates booked appointments with me twice a week for support with their internship and job applications. My schedule was often full, some students secured positions, and a number of students returned for follow up sessions.

Career Mentoring

I've spent the past 3 years as a voluntary careers mentor. Exploring career interests, providing one to one mentorship for undergraduates, graduates and alumni at various stages in their career. Helped secure employment, successful career transitions and a desire to extend mentoring relationships.

Since September 2023, I have been a Careers Mentor for the National College of Ireland, helping secondary students in DEIS schools.

Eric Asato, Career Consulting Manager

"I highly recommend James as a proactive life-long learner, empathetic listener, and team-oriented collaborator. James has volunteered as a Career Mentor since 2021, sharing his expertise in Positive Psychology, Education, and Career Development Learning in workshops, panels, and mentoring over 20 university students through the program. During lockdown, I got to know James better as we ran Thriving Online Workshops to support colleagues' wellbeing. Later, I was his student during his Positive Psychology diploma and greatly appreciate James' support. In 2023, when James saw the Careers Team was short staffed, he volunteered outreach hours to support even more students with career consultations through our Career Centre's Job Shop. Over the past 5 months, I was fortunate to have James as a mentee to discuss developments in the Career Education field as we discussed professional development webinars and readings. The Job Shop team and I were sad when James announced his return to the UK. I know James will continue Thriving in any environment, as he aligns his values in supporting learners in all aspects of life and work. Thank you James for going above and beyond to support the RMIT University community!"
